Flight3 turns 5!!
What started as a small, bootstrapped startup is now a global team - still proudly independent.
3 things I’ve learned
ebitda
If you’re not making EBDITA in a service business, you’re basically a charity. Understanding your numbers is everything when it comes to making the right scaling decisions.
keep going
Most service businesses have a rolling 2-6 month runway. That’s a constant pressure. Surviving that business model, combined with the chaos of crypto, creates a different kind of intensity, one that has helped make me a better operator. A couple of years ago I realised: if it all went wrong, I’d just humbly ask for my role back at Luno. Weirdly, accepting that removed a lot of fear, and made it a lot easier to keep moving forward.
things take time
Big opportunities often happen 2-3 years after a first meeting. Patience isn’t optional if you want to build something meaningful.
3 things I’m excited for
AI - both intimidating and exciting in the same breath
Big ideas - with AI doing the day-to-day, there is more space to think. As creatives, an idea can be simple, but actually, it can take hours and hours of thought.
Industry maturity - the rooms have changed, the faces have evolved, but there is still the same desire to create something that will make the world better. I am as bullish on web3 as I was in that first penny drop moment in 2013. People forget how far we have come in such a short time.
Superpower
Entrepreneurship is a rollercoaster. Persistence and stamina are often more important skills than high IQ and skill sets.
As a founder, finding people who are better than you is the unlock, and I feel lucky to work with some of the best web3 marketers in the space.
I’m proud to see all the F3 OGs go on to smash it: Solana, Sui, Aptos, Elwood, Tether, DYDX, and many more.
I’ve made more mistakes than correct calls, and I’m still learning every single day. Grateful to everyone who’s been on the ride. From our advisors, current team, clients, partners, LDN builders, and global event friends. The community we have built along the way is amazing.
The power of 1% better is one of those mindsets that James Clear really crystallised. Building good habits is actually simple and forces routine. Can we compound positive habits, better data use, and faster client wins?
In a world where everyone can create code on Claude, distribution will be the MOAT. Marketing will no longer be an afterthought, therefore it’s a very exciting time for marketers!
We are basically at the start line. The next 5 years are going to be exciting - I can feel that, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can create.
But beyond all that, what I’m most proud of is the team. Different time zones. Different backdrops. One group of people who push relentlessly.
5 years. One team.
Thanks for being part of the journey: whether you’ve worked with us, followed along or supported us from the sidelines.
Haz!
Slowly then suddenly

What a journey! Congrats on this milestone 👏
